Chinese name : 舒茶早
Taxonomy : Angiosperms / Eudicots / Ericales / Theaceae
Shuchazao is a new clonal variety, bred by Shucheng Agricultural Technology Extension Center of Anhui Province from local population varieties by systematic selection method. In 1995, it was approved by Anhui Provincial crop variety examination and Approval Committee as a provincial improved variety.
The tree is semi open, with dense branches and slightly oblique leaves. The leaf shape is long elliptic, dark green, glossy, thick and soft, the leaf surface is raised, the leaf edge is wavy, and the leaf body is curly. The buds and leaves are light green with medium pubescence and strong tenderness. It has high yield, strong cold resistance and adaptability. It is suitable to be popularized in Northern Anhui green tea area.
The availability of a chromosome-scale genome holds great promise for the understanding of fundamental genomic architecture and evolution, and for the improvement of tea plant quality (such as catechin, theanine and caffeine) and yield.Integrated with GWAS, map-based clone, and bulked segregant analysis, the chromosome-scale genome will accelerate the identification of trait-related variations or genes that can be used for the rapid, effective, and inexpensive selection of available germplasms or cultivars.
